Overview:

The Software Quality Assurance Engineer uses analytical methods to test and assure the quality of our web applications. SQA engineers prepare testing and reporting documentation throughout the software development life cycle and demonstrate a deep knowledge of software quality assurance methodology and tools. This position works with team members to ensure developed functionality is fit for purpose and meets client requirements. As part of an agile team, the SQA engineer reviews customer requirements, design and functional specifications, and prepares test documentation.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop expertise in the features/product areas owned by your team and use that expertise to advocate on behalf of the customer/end user and for overall quality. This involves working closely with project teams to review requirements/design for testability and develop a test approach
  • Perform functional testing and regression testing of application features, with a focus on writing detailed feedback/bugs for effective defect resolution
  • Develop and maintain automated tests using a commercial test automation suite
  • Use JIRA to log and track application defects, verify that the corresponding defect fixes perform correctly and ensure that any other features impacted by the code change are regression tested
  • Participate in continuous improvement of testing processes and procedures by analyzing reported bugs and then assessing test coverage and project execution around these areas
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to meet the needs of the team and department, and to support Silverchair's business needs
  • Demonstrate proficiency in leveraging Artificial Intelligence tools and technologies to enhance workflow efficiency, automate repetitive tasks, and/or derive actionable insights.
  • AI Utilization
    • Maintain AI literacy and understanding of ethical AI applications in academic publishing and scholarly communications
    • Demonstrate basic prompt engineering skills for effective AI tool utilization
    • Exercise judgment in determining when AI assistance is and is not appropriate for tasks
    • Ensure compliance with Silverchair's AI usage policies and data protection requirements
    • Collaborate effectively with AI tools while maintaining human oversight and professional standards
    • Utilize AI-powered test generation tools to create comprehensive test cases and scenarios for software validation.
    • Design and implement automated testing workflows that incorporate AI tools for efficient test execution and reporting.
    • Identify and detect hallucinations in AI-generated code to ensure accuracy and reliability of automated outputs.
    • Establish quality metrics for AI outputs to measure performance, accuracy, and effectiveness of AI-assisted testing processes.
    • Apply human judgment to evaluate and validate AI-generated test results, ensuring proper interpretation and decision-making.

Required Skills:

Qualified candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as exemplified by clear bug/issue explanations, documentation of knowledge and effective intra- and inter-group communications. Strong candidates will have the ability to motivate people, instill accountability, and achieve results. Impeccable organizational and time management skills are necessary, and successful SQA engineers have the ability to learn and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment that is team-oriented and fast-paced.

Desired Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 2+ years of experience, lesser degrees must be accompanied by additional equivalent software testing experience
    • Degrees in a related technical discipline or Software testing certifications are preferred
  • Experience building and executing automated tests using commercial automation tools
  • Experience testing responsive websites on Android and iOS devices
  • Demonstrated skills writing Transact-SQL to effectively create and modify test data and verify results within databases, particularly Microsoft SQL Server
  • An understanding of XML and JSON
  • Have worked on complex functional testing projects that require a deep understanding of the application logic and dependencies
  • Have worked on publicly released software
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and automation testing using .NET, SQL, SML and Selenium
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies such as Scrum
  • Expertise with Selenium and/or JMeter
